Cattle become stressed when handled or restrained. Cows are unpredictable in the days following calving.
Injuries commonly occur when castrating, vaccinating, ear tagging cattle - especially when working solo.
These injuries cost the agricultural industry $400 million a year. Injury and downtime can be especially catastrophic for small farms with solo operators.
I was looking for ways to make it safer for me to handle newborn calves. I am running a small farm and mostly work on my own. I needed extra protection from cows who have just calved.
I took my idea to John at Branxholm Fabrications and he came up with the design - Tassie Calf Catcher. It took a few modifications, but I am really happy with the end product - it has made my one-man operation so much easier and safer.
